Adelle Atkinson, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Atkinson is currently a Professor of Paediatrics in the Department of Paediatrics, and a consultant Immunologist/Allergist in the Division of Immunology and Allergy. Her clinical work focuses on patients with primary immunodeficiencies, bone marrow transplantation, and complex allergic diseases with an emphasis on reactions to foods, drugs and biologics.
Dr. Atkinson currently holds the position of Associate Chair – Education, and previously the position of Director of Postgraduate Medical Education for the Department of Paediatrics. In the latter role, she administered the training program for over 80 paediatric residents at the University of Toronto, from 2006 – 2021.
Dr. Atkinson is also a Clinician Educator with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, with a focus on the Implementation of Competence by Design.
Cynthia Abbott, MPl
Cynthia Abbott is the Manager of the CanMEDS and Faculty Development Team at the Royal College. Over the course of her career, she has been involved in major educational innovation projects including CanMEDS and Competence by Design. She’s heavily involved in faculty development in support of residency programs with a special emphasis on program directors, program administrators and competence committee chairs.
Andrée Boucher, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Andrée Boucher is now professor at the school of medicine, Université de Montréal. As an endocrinologist specializing in thyroid cancer and a clinical researcher, she is the current head of the Endocrinology division at the Université de Montréal Academic Health Centre (CHUM). She also is the associate medical director at the Direction of Education and Academy at the CHUM.
Her experience in medical education includes all levels of training, including Vice-Dean of Continuing Professional Development at Université de Montréal and Vice-President Education at the Association of Faculties of Medicine. She led the reflection around the transformation of programs into competency based medical education (CBME) in her school at Université de Montréal.
Ryan Giroux, MD, FRCPC (He/Him)
Dr. Ryan Giroux is an Indigenous Clinician Educator at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada where he is focused on accreditation. He is a General Pediatrician at Unity Health Toronto and the Inner City Health Associates in Toronto, working primarily with Indigenous families, refugees, and Newcomers to Canada. His main interests include equity in medical education and Indigenous child health. He is a member of the Metis Nation of Alberta.
Kannin Osei-Tutu, MD, MSc, CCFP
Dr. Kannin Osei-Tutu MD, MSc, CCFP is a University of Toronto trained family physician who specializes in acute care inpatient medicine and has spent the past 11 years of his professional career on the front lines caring for patients with diseases related to socio-political inequity and marginalization. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Student Advising and Wellness at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary.
At the provincial level, he is the founder and President of the Black Physicians’ Association (BPAA) and also serves on the CPSA Anti-racism Anti-discrimination Action Committee. His national leadership roles include; Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategic Advisor for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Chair of the Accreditation Work Group to Address Anti-Black Racism, Steering Committee member of the CANMED25 project, and Board Member of the Black Physicians of Canada (BPC).
Saleem Razack, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Saleem Razack is the director of the Office of Social Accountability and Community Engagement for the Faculty of Medicine, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, and Core Faculty at the Centre for Medical Education at McGill University. He practices as a pediatric critical care medicine physician. His major interests in medical education include assessment, equity issues, and social accountability in health professions education.
Javeed Sukhera, MD, PhD, FRCPC
Dr. Javeed Sukhera is the Chair of Psychiatry at the Institute of Living and Chief of the Department of Psychiatry at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. He has academic affiliations with the University of Connecticut and Yale University. Dr. Sukhera comes to Hartford HealthCare from Western University in London, Ontario, Canada where he held various clinical and academic leadership roles. He graduated from the University of Toronto and Ben-Gurion University and completed his residency and child/adolescent fellowship training at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. He completed his PhD in Health Professions Education from Maastricht University. He is an internationally recognized health professions education researcher. His research program explores novel approaches to addressing stigma and bias among health professionals and he has also been involved in advocacy and cross-sectoral work in education, policing, and community services.
